After the maiden launch of Vinexpo 2021 in Delhi, Vinexpo India is back with a bang and promises to be bigger and better. I’m travelling overseas, and unfortunately, will miss the Show but Sommelier India wine magazine will be ably represented by SI’s Pune correspondent, Brinda Gill.

Now for some nuts and bolts information.

The Mumbai edition is being held at the Leela Hotel in Mumbai on Thursday 18 to Saturday 20 August 2022. The Keynote Address will be given by none other than Rajeev Samant, Founder CEO of Sula Vineyards.

A record 14 masterclasses on a wide variety of subjects (which may increase in number) are the backbone of the Mumbai edition. The masterclasses are free and conducted by experts in their field. Every masterclass will have an appropriate selection of wines to taste. According to a Company release, InterAds Exhibitors, the Indian partner organisers, have been overwhelmed by the response. Except for a few seats confirmed for the target audience, entry will be on a first-come-first-served basis, so attendees are advised to come early.

Wines on show
A good number of wineries will be participating from Italy, Bordeaux and the US. Indian importers like Sonarys, Aspri, VBev and The Wine Park are eager to showcase the labels they carry, along with tastings, while Roland Coiffe & Associés, wine merchants from Bordeaux, are bringing a range of wines from Bordeaux and other parts of France.

Mattia Cianca from Italy has teamed up with Amrita Singh in Bordeaux to bring an eclectic range of Italian wines from 10 wineries and Agriment Italia is showcasing a range of wines from different regions of Italy.

For Italian wine lovers familiar with the Bolgheri area in Tuscany, Sanjoy Menon, CEO of Sonarys, is discussing the evolution of their wines combined with a guided tasting. And at another Seminar, Menon will demonstrate the difference the choice of glass makes to the drinking experience of a wine.

Other Highlights
Although Vinexpo is a major Wine Show, imported spirits, liqueurs and beer from Aspri and VBev are also on display. John Distilleries presents their new award-winning Roulette whiskey alongside their Big Banyan wines.

SWISSVÄL, the Swiss company working with Luxury Spirits, will present its Alpine gin, Single Malt Whisky and Williams Birds Eye Chilli, a spicy cocktail mix that goes very well with Red Bull, which it also distributes. These will be available at the stand of their Indian partners, Osprey Holding, as well as at the Masterclass to be conducted on August 19.

Entry to Vinexpo is complimentary for wine professionals but registration is mandatory, so don’t miss this opportunity to interact with importers and producers while tasting the fine wares on offer.
