Napa, Napa

This summer a high-ranking delegation of 19 top Indian government and industry leaders toured Napa Valley to see what our fledgling wine industry might gain from the California example. Napa County has 44,000 acres of grapes and is a $9.5 billion industry.

By 2009, the US is likely to become the largest wine market in the world. “We want to have a relation with Napa Valley,” said Vilasrao Deshmukh, the chief minister of Maharashtra. He hoped Indian wine producers would gain more understanding
of how to market their produce and what kinds of grapes to grow in India.
