In the heart of Sonoma County, Naidu Wines is blossoming from a personal passion into a beacon for fine wine enthusiasts, where each bottle reflects the vision, resilience, and rich heritage of founder Raghni Naidu. What began as an ambitious leap into the complex world of wine production has, within a few challenging yet rewarding years, evolved into a brand celebrated for its elegance, quality, and cultural roots.
On a recent visit to the vineyard in Sonoma, Raghni herself hosted us, Reva K. Singh and Shiv Singh of Sommelier India, offering a rare glimpse into her world and her journey. With a warmth and enthusiasm only a true vintner could bring, she treated us to a guided tasting of each of her wines, sharing personal anecdotes that revealed the passion and cultural influences that have shaped Naidu Wines.
Starting with just 75 cases, Naidu Wines has expanded to over 2,000, capturing the attention of the fine wine community and attracting accolades along the way. Today, her meticulously crafted Pinot Noir, particularly the Estate Pinot Noir, has gained acclaim, including prestigious awards like the double gold at the San Francisco Chronicle Wine Competition. Wine Enthusiast has scored Naidu’s wines between 90 and 95 points, a testament to the finesse and dedication poured into each vintage.

Raghni’s journey to the vineyard was anything but linear. Hailing from Amritsar and influenced by time spent in Sanawar, she grew up in a family environment that was far from traditional. Her mother, who hailed from Kashmir, instilled in her a love for the rich flavors of Indian cuisine and a keen appreciation for nuanced recipes—a background that plays a significant role in Raghni’s distinctive approach to winemaking. These influences, combined with extensive travels through Burgundy, where she studied the region’s wine techniques, are evident in her decision to focus on producing premium wines with a Burgundy-inspired profile, showcasing the elegance and depth of Pinot Noir and Chardonnay.
The Naidu estate, a 10-acre property with 4.5 acres dedicated to Pinot Noir vines, embodies her commitment to uncompromising quality. Located in the Russian River Valley, an area renowned for its unique terroir, the estate’s climate and soil provide an ideal foundation for growing Pinot Noir, lending the grapes the complexity and structure Naidu wines are becoming known for. Her choice to use Burgundy barrels, refusing to take shortcuts, speaks volumes of her dedication to creating wines that are nuanced, textured, and built for connoisseurs.
However, Naidu Wines is more than just a brand—it’s a cultural statement. With pride in her Indian heritage, Raghni has woven cultural elements into her brand’s identity. For instance, Naidu hosts a special Holi celebration on the estate and recently introduced a paneer-inspired charcuterie board in honor of Diwali, inviting guests to experience a unique fusion of Indian culinary traditions with Californian wine culture.

“This journey has been about more than just creating wines; it’s been about bringing a bit of my heritage and my story to everything we do here at Naidu Wines,” she shared with us. “The narrative around Indian food and wine pairings has often been driven by non-Indians, but I want to change that.”
From her early beginnings, hand-delivering wines while balancing life as a mother of two, to seeing Naidu Wines poured in the Michelin-starred SingleThread restaurant, Raghni’s trajectory is an inspiring story of resilience, ambition, and adaptability. As Naidu Wines continues to grow in the U.S., she is now setting her sights on the Indian market, aiming to enter at a premium price point that positions her wines among the best imported wines in India. It’s a significant move in her goal to create a space for Indian consumers to enjoy world-class wines that carry the essence of both her winemaking craft and her cultural heritage.
While most of the production is currently done through custom crushing at Vinify, just 20 minutes from the estate, Naidu plans to bring the entire production process in-house over time. Her vision extends to balanced distribution, aiming to reach consumers through a mix of restaurant placements, retail, and an exclusive wine club, splitting sales evenly across these channels.
As Naidu Wines continues to flourish, Raghni Naidu is carving out a unique space in the industry, one that honors tradition, embraces innovation, and introduces Indian cultural nuances to the world of fine wine.
