France has too much wine


France is converting 200million liters of excess wine into industrial alcohol and for the first time this includes premium AOC wines from the Bordeaux wine producing region.

This is another bi-product of the oversupply of wine that France has been suffering from. It is also in sharp contrast to the consumption of Champagne, which recorded its best year ever with 300 million bottles being consumed worldwide in 2004.
