Bigger & Better – VieVinum 2018 marks a landmark anniversary

VieVinum 2018

VieVinum is all set to celebrate its landmark 20th-anniversary from 9th to 10th June with a special edition of Austria’s best-known wine fair. More than a thousand international wine professionals will be coming to Vienna at the invitation of the Austrian Wine Marketing Board (AWMB).

With a record number of visitors, the 2018 edition of VieVinum is particularly auspicious for Austria’s export-oriented winegrowers, notes the AWMB release. Merchants, sommeliers, restaurateurs and journalists from 45 nations will be present at Vienna’s Hofburg Palace where the best of Austrian wines are being showcased.

While most of the trade visitors are from primary export markets such as Germany, the USA, Switzerland and Russia, the AWMB is also hosting visitors from up-and-coming export markets in Asia and South America. Many first-time visitors have expressed keen interest in Austrian wine producers and their unique range of wines.

Austria’s winegrowers, for their part, are very pleased with the 2017 vintage in terms of both quality and quantity. They are optimistic about their reception from industry professionals at VieVinum, especially since so much of the production elsewhere in Europe suffered due to inclement weather with substantial shortfalls in volume in many cases.

The current interest in ViVinum is also due to the fact that wine from Austria is presently one of the hottest categories in the international wine market, as indicated by record export figures for 2017. Austria crossed the 150 million euro mark for the first time, achieving an average price per litre of 3.39 euros which is an all-time high!

Therefore, realistically speaking, expectations are very high that this year’s anniversary edition of VieVinum will shift Austria’s wine industry into high gear with even more substantial gains in the world market. The environment for this could not be better.
