Wine Society holds Wine Appreciation Dinner

A few days ago, 50 members of The Wine Society experienced a delectable meal accompanied by Castel’s 2006 vintage of their Bordeaux Merlot, a 100% Merlot, their Sauvignon Blanc and the surprise of the evening “Halana Merlot”. This is a Moroccan Merlot from the Castel stable and was very interesting. It was a beautiful garnet colour with shades of deep purple. winesocietycastel.jpg

The nose had aromas of red fruit, violet flowers and a hint of spices. A supple, rounded wine on the palate, easy to drink with very light tannins. Wonderful with grilled red and white meat, poultry and all kinds of goat’s cheese. This wine accompanied the main course which had an option of Chicken Breast with mushroom and mozzarella in garlic red pepper sauce or Grilled Fillet of sole marinated with herbs and lime.
Altogether a fun evening at ‘Tonino’, the Italian Restaurantwith some of the “younger” members raising the decibel levels to a new high, or was it the wine ?!
