The Wine Society, Delhi, held its 15th Annual General Meeting on 14th August at The Park Hotel, Parliament Street, New Delhi. This was the first AGM held without its Founder & President, the late Ghulam Naqshband who passed away earlier this year. He was very involved with the Society till the very end and will be sorely missed by one and all, writes Vice President Bunty Singh
Most of our wine dinner events generally showcase international wines. However, the Society also organizes dinners with Indian wines as we feel it is important that the members also get exposed to Indian wines, as their quality improves. This time around it was the excellent wines from the Four Seasons bouquet.
The evening started with Four Seasons Blush as an aperitif and was followed by their Sauvignon Blanc, Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon. These were paired with a delectable Indian menu especially put together for the evening by the chef of the Park Hotel with inputs from Siddhartha Tandon of the UB Group. My favourite wine of the evening was Four Seasons Sauvignon Blanc!
Wine Society member, Vikram Achanta of Tulleeho, made a presentation on the WSET courses he is offering, which evinced considerable interest among those present.
As dinner was being served the tempo started picking up, with the good food and wine accompanied by the music of the husband and wife team, Satish and Arlene Sharma of Blue Dolphins, who played and sang some real foot-tapping and hip-shaking numbers. The star of the evening was member Amrita who regaled the gathering with a couple of songs culminating in the all-time favourite, “Goray goray….” ! The Wine Society holds about six to nine events a year, but not all are accompanied by music.
