Paella & Biryani Culinary Fest


DSC_0043.jpgA gastronomic evening with Spanish wines and paella found many takers at Mumbai’s Tote on the Turf, reports Naina Hiranandani. “Paella & Biryani: Same Same but Different” was held in collaboration with the Consulate of Spain in Mumbai and Turespaña on Thursday, December 2, 2010.

While four chefs from Spain created the signature dish – Paella – Spanish olives, Jamón serrano (dry-cured Spanish ham) and a variety of tapas and cheese did the rounds as live performances in the courtyard entertained the crowd. What really enthralled guests was a unique tasting of Spanish virgin olive oil and Spanish wines from Rioja, Castilla la Mancha, Castilla y León, Aragón and Navarra and Cava. The Roda Reserva 2006 exhibited strong, firm tannins with silky elegance; the Aljibe 2003 had splendid aromas of rich cherry, pepper and oak. As wines poured through the night, delectable sweet treats like Pudin de Arroz, Crème Caramel and Peras al Vino provided a fine finish.
