La Brancaia Dinners in Mumbai, Goa and Bangalore

bmk.jpg Recently new wine importer Vishal Kadakia of Wine Park Mumbai held a series of dinners in Mumbai, Goa and Bangalore for La Brancaia, a top-end ‘Super Tuscan’ wine.Brancaia in the Chianti Classico area of Tuscany is owned by the Swiss couple Bruno and Brigitte Widmer since 1981; their daughter Barbara is the winemaker, while the latter’s husband Martin Kronenberg runs the company.

Brancaia had a vertical take-off when its 1983 vintage won first place at a major Chianti Classico tasting. Since then their flagship BRANCAIA IL BLU has been winning accolades all over – the 2004 vintage (which was one of the wines tasted at the dinners) has been rated at 96 points by Wine Spectator, and was a huge hit: an extraordinary aroma, very well balanced, velvety tannins and a long finish! The Brancaia Ilatraia 2005 (92 points) and Brancaia TRE 2005 (88 points) were the other wines tasted; the former is almost as impressive, while the latter good value.
This was Martin’s first visit to India, and he thoroughly enjoyed what he termed “the colour and energy” of the cities he visited – in particular Bangalore, where the dinner was held at the Royal Club in the Leela Palace hotel, and the food pairing done by chef Bradley Montgomery “an extraordinary experience”.
We’re looking forward to seeing more such good wines coming in.
