On the 28 August, Godrej Nature’s Basket and Sopexa launched Savour France, a promotion to acquaint consumers with French wines and cheeses at Nature’s Basket outlets. Savour France will run till 6 September 2009, reports Naina Hiranandani.
Sommelier Magandeep Singh kick started the evening by entertaining audiences with his French experiences and lightening the mood while the Castel Virginie Chardonnay refreshed guests. He also discussed wine basics that always pop up as questions from beginners – using a corkscrew, pouring wine, holding a glass and storing opened bottles.
The fruity Georges Duboeuf Pouilly-Fuissé from FineWinesnMore was ideal for the first round – a light Chardonnay with tints of honey and green apple. Next was another white Chardonnay from Domaine Laroche Chablis with strong cheese aromas and a unique finish.
Accompaniments included olives, peppers, figs, grapes and a repertoire of cheeses such as Brie, creamy Chèvre, Camembert and nutty Raclette. Those with an experimental palate tried the tangy, strongly flavoured blue cheese, Roquefort.
The reds included a light wine from Henry Fessy Beaujolais Villages with notes of candied cherry and wood shavings supplied by Sonarys. The next red from Castel Malesan Bordeaux was full bodied with strong tannins and heavy aromas.
The evening ended with enthusiastic consumers interacting with Magandeep as aperitifs and flowing French wines kept spirits high.
