Football and Champagne Bubbles

The bottle, pictured left, comes in an elegant white and gold gift box with a special gold label decorated with holograms of ‘bouncing footballs’ in place of the standard ‘bubble’ design.

The neck label is printed with the World Cup trophy. The bubbles give the impression of being raised, although they are completely flat. Clovis Taittinger 35-year old export director of the house and 4th generation member of the family comments, “We are delighted to be associated with this famous event.

The Fédération Internationale de Football Association chose Taittinger to be the official champagne of the 2014 FIFA World Cup in Brazil. The matches will take place in Rio de Janeiro at the open-air Maracanã Stadium, the country’s biggest football ground. Built for the 1950 FIFA World Cup Brazil, Maracanã will host seven games in all, more than any other venue, including the final on 13 July.
This is the first time in the history of the tournament that a Champagne House has been chosen by FIFA as the official Champagne to be served to guests in FIFA’s VIP and VVIP areas in a sponsorship contract that will run until the end of 2015.
Since 1932 Champagne Taittinger has grown and taken its place among the great Champagne Houses. It is one of the few remaining independent houses owned and actively managed by the family.
Its innovative style is largely influenced by Chardonnay and its signature non vintage is well known for its complexity. Grapes from over 35 different crus go into making the blend, which at 40% has a higher proportion of Chardonnay than most other champagnes have, giving the wine delicacy and finesse.
The nose is fresh and appealing with hints of biscuit and brioche while the palate is light and elegant with delicate but persistent bubbles. This special, limited edition bottle retails at around £39.95 per bottle in the UK and is available also in Magnums and Jeroboams on special order.
