Fine wines from Campania at the ITC Maratha

Oct 13-ITC Maratha, Mumbai - Restaurant.jpgITC Maratha, Mumbai, celebrated the introduction of five wine labels from the Feudi Di San Gregorio portfolio with the visit of Ms. Emanuela Supino of Feudi Di San Gregorio winery, a top rated wine group from the Campania region of Italy for an exquisite pairing of Asian cuisine at the Pan Asian restaurant last week, reports Suneeta Sodhi Kanga from Mumbai.

Sonal Holland, ITC’s wine master, introduced and paired the five labels from the Feudi Di San Gregorio portfolio range for the special sit down meal. This winery was awarded “Winery of the year 2012” by Oscar del Vino.
‘Feudi di San Gregorio’ is the only winery from Campania to have reached two stars on Gamberro Rosso after winning the prestigious ‘3 Glasses’ award 20 times.
Feudi was founded by husband-and-wife team Enzo Ercolino and Mirella Capaldo in the mid-1980s. Over the past two decades it has won over both wine classicists and modernists by taking novel approaches to the region’s unique volcanic terroir while still respecting the essence of indigenous grape varieties like Fiano, Aglianico and Greco di Tufo.
The winery is better known for its white wine selections; almost 60% of the wines produced are white. The wines that were showcased were – Greco di Tufo 2012 (white), Lacryma Cristi Bianco 2012 (white), Falangina del Sanio 2012 (white), Lacryma Cristi Rosso 2011 (red) and Taurasi 2008 (red). The bottles all have the smallest wine labels that I have ever seen!
The Falangina del Sanio 2012 was particularly nice with high acidity, a perfumed nose of white flowers and a long finish. (Trivia – Flang in Italian means a pole / trellis / support). The Greco di Tufo 2012 was another nice wine with clay and minerals on the palate, high acidity and a long finish. Emanuela told us that only eight villages fall into this very prestigious appellation.
The talented Chefs of the Pan Asian at the ITC Maratha had prepared delectable Asian cuisine that complemented the exquisite taste of Feudi Di San Gregorio wines.
The guests enjoyed the flavorsome taste of one of the finest Tom Yum soups that they had ever tasted. The chicken dumplings, the black pepper fish and Teppanyaki tenderloin and green Thai curry were all delicious too. The evening ended with a lip smacking honey noodles and vanilla ice cream dessert.
The Feudi Di San Gregorio wines are solely imported and distributed by Berkmann Wine Cellars India Private Limited and are available at all leading Hotels, restaurants and select retail outlets across the country.
