The hugely entertaining movie, ‘Bottle Shock’, is based on a story of love, victory and fermentation. This 2008 film chronicles the events leading up to the watershed 1976 ‘Judgment of Paris’ blind wine tasting led by Steven Spurrier (Alan Rickman). Shot on-location in Sonoma County, California, Bottle Shock shows how the passion and unflagging commitment to quality shared by a maverick father-and-son winemaking team (Château Montelena’s Jim & Bo Barrett) translated to their Chardonnay trumping its French counterparts and putting America on the wine map for good.
It was an early evening of relaxed enjoyment and chilled wine that went very well with the hot, buttery popcorn. Wine club members discussed the movie over a buffet dinner. Of special interest was the depiction of Steven Spurrier, a familiar face for most wine lovers in India, by Alan Rickman. Pictured: Nina Kanjirath and Vishal & Dhriti Seth
