An Italian tour with Antinori at Hyatt Regency Pune

Laterrazzapunea.jpgA special wine dinner was hosted recently at the Hyatt Regency Pune. “When I heard that Guido Vannucchi, Export Director, Marchesi Antinori, was going to be in India, I didn’t want to lose the opportunity of hosting a wine dinner at La Terrazza with signature Italian preparations paired with Antinori wines,” said Hemant Mehta, Executive Assistant Manager-Food and Beverage. Brinda Gill was among the guests.

For his part Vannucchi was immensely pleased to be in Pune and introduce guests to Antinori wines and take them on a little tour of Italy and of Antinori estates in Tuscany, Sicily, Piedmonte and Bolgheri!
He spoke of the unique heritage of Antinori wines that span 26 generations across six centuries and the company’s estates in different parts of Italy and the world. Pradipt Sinha, Executive Sous Chef, who had tasted the wines, made note of their flavours, structure and nuances and crafted a menu of Italian specialities that paired with the wines and offered diners a special dining experience.
The evening started with Villa Antinori Bianco, a light, fresh, young easy-drinking white wine that went well with the antipasti of chicken liver crostini, bell pepper crostini, and stuffed mushrooms. The multi-course pre-plated sit down dinner opened with a serving of grilled scallops and scampi with bell pepper coulis, pink pepper, dill and yogurt dressing as well as grilled artichokes with bell pepper coulis and arugula paired with a soft and flavourful Santa Cristina Pinot Grigio.
Butter nut squash risotto with grilled radicchio was served next with Il Bruciato (the second wine of the world famous Super Tuscan ` Guado Al Tasso’ from Bolgheri), a lovely blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Syrah, produced in a Bordeaux style.
A light strawberry sorbet, served in a shot glass with a sprig of mint, was perfect to cleanse the palate for the next course. While the non-vegetarians enjoyed braised lamb shanks with pan fried polenta, grilled asparagus, cherry tomato and thyme jus, the vegetarians relished a delicate Bell pepper and mushroom involtini with grilled asparagus, ricotta torteloni and taleggio cream sauce paired with Prunotto Barolo (one of the most consistently highly rated Barolos for its excellent structure and complexity) a classy red wine with good structure and complexity.
The Cassata with berry compote served with Pian Delle Vigne Brunello Di Montalcino, a 100% Sangiovese wine was the a perfect dessert to end the meal on a summer evening. Vannucchi described the Sangiovese as a generous grape gifting the wine with flavours of tobacco and chocolate, whose complexity was enhanced by maturing two years in oak and four years in the bottle!
“A great evening is all about enjoying a good meal, good wines and good company. While each Antinori wine is distinct, they all have the elegance, harmonious flavours and balance that are the style of our wines,” said Vannucchi.
The selection of Antinori wines, a leisurely and delightful multi-course meal and lively conversation, ensured a very enjoyable evening.
