Two rosés produced by Fantini from the Abruzzo region of Italy, Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo and Calalenta, have been imported to India by Monika Enterprises. Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo is a new entry in the Indian Market as is Calalenta, the only Italian made Merlot rosé in the country.
Sommelier India hasn’t received samples of the wines but the company tasting notes are given below. Both wines are available at select wine stores in Mumbai and can also be ordered directly from Monika Enterprises by getting in touch with them on [email protected]
Fantini Cerasuolo d’Abruzzo
Cerasuolo translates as “Pale cherry red” and is the rose wine from Abruzzo, Italy. With a truly short skin contact, this wine made purely from Montepulciano d’Abruzzo grapes still wears the pale cherry red colour as its name suggests. The freshness and round structure of this wine are accompanied by a bouquet of incredible scents and small red berry, particularly strawberry; flavours to please your taste buds and will pair well with Asian and Italian cuisine.
Fantini Calalenta
A ‘Provence Style’ rosé with great potential based on Merlot coming right from the sunny hills of the Abruzzo coast in Italy. Made from grapes hand-picked at night (Calalenta), this is a wine with refreshing acidity with aromas of strawberry, fresh watermelons and rose petals, and a long and intense finish. This rosé wine reveals to the nose all kinds of mulberries, blueberries, blackberries and blackcurrants, complemented by pink grapefruit and floral hints. The Calalenta is currently the only Italian made Merlot rosé, perfect for vegetarian dishes, raw fish, and Japanese cuisine.
