Here’s a recommendation for wine lovers on holiday in California. The Ojai Wine Festival makes a wonderful family outing. The Festival is an annual event and a great draw for visitors throughout the Central Coast and Southern California. In the last few years the number of attending wineries has doubled. SI contributor, Ranjan Pal visited Ojai from Los Angeles.
This year I made the 90-minute trip north from Los Angeles to the beautiful little town of Ojai where the 25th edition of the Ojai Wine Festival was being held on June 12. Organised by the local Rotary Club on the banks of Lake Casitas with all the proceeds going to charity, the festival showcased several regional wine producers and attracted nearly 5,000 people from the Central Coast and SoCal. Besides the wine, there was also ample food from local restaurants, musical entertainment in the form of a couple of bands that played all the golden oldies and a large selection of arts and crafts from local vendors. A great way to spend a balmy California afternoon wandering from stall to stall with your souvenir glass in hand – and if you book early, the adult ticket can be had for as little as $35.
