The Masters of Wine remain the most elite professionals within the world of wine, with currently only 280 MWs scattered around 23 different countries none of whom are India based. But with applications opening this week, maybe it is time to ask yourselves if you’re ready for the challenge.
A few Indian Sommeliers are rumored to be studying for the examination but we have no information on who is at what stage in the process. The only current Asian based MWs are Jeannie Cho Lee, Debra Meiburg, Ned Goodwin and Lisa Perrotti-Brown.
The institute is inviting applications from those who have at least five years industry experience, and a formal wine qualification such as the WSET Diploma, wine MBA, oenology degree or equivalent. Applications will be accepted until August 2nd, 2010 and also require a 1,000 word essay answering the question, “What will be the next big thing in the world of wine?” No fewer than 240 students participated in the program in 2009. This is a guided self-study programme which takes a minimum of three years to complete preparing students to pass the Masters of Wine examinations.
More information about the program is available on the Institute of Masters of Wine website.
