The good news from Four Seasons Wines is that Ritu Blush has won an award at the recently concluded ‘What Food, What Wine?’ competition at the London Wine Fair. As advocates of food and wine matching, especially in the Indian context, we were very pleased indeed to get the good news. Now try the wine yourself with Chicken Tikka Masala, the winning food match, and see what you think.
Part of International Wines and Spirits Competition, this is apparently the first competition of its kind which is intended to encourage consumers to experiment with food and wine pairings. All the wines were judged blind. The Ritu Blush, described as a youthful, refreshing wine was entered in the ‘What Food, What Wine? Indian’ category and was awarded the prize paired with Chicken Tikka Masala, which is sometimes referred to as the national dish of Britain, so popular is it. This was the only Indian dish featured last year, but the response was so good that more Indian dishes were added to the competition this year including Chicken Korma and Lamb Rogan Josh.
TV wine experts and married Masters of Wine, Susie Barrie and Peter Richards conducted the competition along with a top team of food and wine experts, including the world’s best sommelier, Gérard Basset (MS MW), and well-known food and wine expert and SI contributor, Fiona Beckett, among others.
