Raffles celebrates 125 years with Billecart-Salmon

But when that bubbly has been exclusively bottled for you then it becomes even more special, writes Soni Sangwan. The Raffles Hotel Singapore is celebrating its 125th anniversary with a limited-edition, exclusively bottled Billecart-Salmon Brut Réserve Champagne. The champagne will be launched at a special celebratory Billecart-Salmon Champagne 125th Anniversary Brunch in Singapore on Sunday 16 September 2012. This will mark the beginning of a year of celebration.


The champagne will be available only at the Raffles Hotels & Resorts across the world – Paris, Seychelles, Cambodia and China.
Billecart-Salmon is the oldest continuously family-owned and operated house in Champagne and is now being managed by the 7th generation. The house was established in 1818 by Nicolas Francois-Billecart and Elisabeth Salmon in Mareuil-sur-Ay. Over the centuries, they have earned a name for themselves for creating elegant, fully-rounded vintage cuvées that are ageless in style.
Billecart-Salmon is famous for its production values due to which the quantities produced are modest and the prestige cuvées are mostly allocated. The cellars are managed by well-known and highly respected Chef de Cave, Francois Domi, who is also the chief winemaker.
In his tasting notes for the anniversary cuvée, Domi write, “The Brut Reserve is a light, fine and harmonious champagne. Its blend is made with Pinot Noir, Chardonnay and Pinot Meunier from three different years, sourced from the best sites in the Champagne region.” The specially bottled champagne is straw yellow with a floral freshness and aromas of fresh fruit and ripe pears. “A full flavour and rich bouquet bear witness to the ageing of this cuvée in the House’s traditional cellars,” adds the winemaker.
Wine Director of Raffles Hotel, Stéphane Soret explains the reasons for choosing Billecart-Salmon. “Like Raffles, Billecart-Salmon has almost two centuries of skill and practice in what they do, which is to make classic, timeless champagne. Whether it’s staying in Raffles or drinking a glass of lightly chilled Billecart-Salmon, style and magic has a lot to do with the experience. Timelessness is about moving with the times and adapting to the world around us – but never forgetting our heritage, which is priceless.”
Priced at SG$ 148 per bottle in Singapore, the champagne will be available at all the restaurants and bars of the hotel.
