Wineessentially, FineWinesnMore’s exclusive wine platform for American Express Platinum Charge members, hosted a dinner on Juhu Beach in the fabulous surrounds of the JW Marriott on Friday, May 13th, celebrating Arte Della Tavola or The Art of the Table, writes Akhilesh Sharma from Mumbai.Left: FWNM wine consultant, Craig W.Wedge entertains guests at a Winessentially dinner at the JW Marriott, Mumbai
Set around a convivial core theme of regional Italian cuisine coupled with superb wines, the 45 guests were certainly in for a treat. Wineessentially’s resident wine consultant Craig W.Wedge was the host for the evening and admirably ensured that guests were entertained with a balanced dose of non-technical wine speak and comic rhetoric!
This, the first Wineessentially event at the JW Marriott, provided the fortunate few the unique opportunity to experience beautiful wines, not only from Central and Northern Italy, but also from (what assuredly is the new vanguard of Indian wines) Fratelli vineyards in the hills of Sholapur.
Kapil Sekhri, one of the three pairs of brothers who own Fratelli Wines, and Dharti Desai, founder & CEO of FineWinesnMore, were on hand to ensure a warm northern Mumbai welcome to the guests upon their arrival.
Celebrity Chef Fabio Polidori and the well-trained kitchen team worked up a storm ensuring the evening’s culinary creations were as far-ranging as the wine styles of the evening. A mixture of flavours and textures drawn from a palette of fresh Italian produce ensured that guests had an wide array of food suitably paired for the occasion with varietal wines of a very high quality. Chardonnay from the family estates of Salvatore Ferragamo and Dolcetto from Piedmont’s powerhouse producer, Casa Fontanfredda, were both suitably challenged by Fratelli Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon.
While the evening was all about food and wine as enhancements to good company, on this particular Friday night in uptown Mumbai, those fortunate enough to be present witnessed something rare indeed, very well made Indian wine going head to head with the wines of Super Italy…. and standing firm.
