Over 80 members of the Bangalore Wine Club recently got together at the newly launched Vivanta by Taj Hotel in the upscale International Tech Park in Bangalore. The reason? To promote and celebrate Indian wines over an al fresco lunch in an event called The Indian Wine Village. Ruma Singh reports
Counters were set up for The Indian Wine Village by each wine company present, and members were free to move from table to table to sample and drink the wines they preferred.
The wine companies took the opportunity to showcase their best, most suitable wines for the occasion. These included Big Banyan with Zinfandel and Chenin Blanc, UB with Four Seasons Blush, Sauvignon Blanc and Cabernet Sauvignon, Sula with Brut (which was very popular in the warm afternoon) and Chenin Blanc, Seagram’s with Nine Hills Cabernet Sauvignon and Sauvignon Blanc and Kinvah with Manthan, Sauvignon Chenin Blanc and Cabernet Shiraz.
Chef Sheroy of Vivanta served a buffet consisting of a variety of foods which guests could enjoy while they tasted the wine. There were antipasti counters, grills and an interesting array of ‘bowl food’, including pasta and biryani. The desserts, as one guest said, were to die for.
To work up an appetite, members attempted the wine quiz compiled by BWC member Sunil Chainani, a combination of fun questions and fascinating trivia. After the prizes were given away, it was time to do the music and the dance floor some justice…. and many did.

This family-oriented event (with kids splashing in the pool), is a relaxed annual fixture by BWC to promote Indian wines. The wine companies received positive as well as critical feedback from members — a great step towards moving forward.
And, it was great fun, too!
