In the April 2014 issue of Sommelier India the story, “Switzerland on High”, featured Heida wine, grown in the Valais region in the highest vineyards of Europe. Shortly thereafter, Heida Barrique 2012 won this year’s Decanter World Wine Awards International Trophy for the best in show single-varietal white wine, reports SI correspondent, Renu Chahil-Graf.
The Heida Barrique 2012 with 14% alcohol competed against impressive wines from Spain, South Africa, France, Australia and Italy. In the words of Decanter magazine, it was “a huge coup for Switzerland”. The locals of the small village of Visperterminen, where many of the wine cooperative owners live and work in the neighbouring vineyards, are ecstatic.
Said Damian Indermitte, CEO of Heidadorf Tourism, “This is the passion and labour of every individual who owns and tends these plots – and they well deserve the international honour that has been awarded to the St-Jodern Kellerei!”
