Cheers to the Pune Gourmet Club

“What makes this festival unique is that it has been put together by a group of volunteers driven by Shankar’s passion!” said Ashvina Vakil, a member of the Pune Gourmet Club that hosted a first-of-its-kind wine festival in the city on 15th and 16th December. The club, initiated by Shankar Narayan, started off informally when a group of friends would get together for meals paired off with wines and steadily swelled in numbers. pgc.jpg

And wishing to share the enjoyable expererience of food and wine pairings as well as create an awareness of the range of Indian wines available in the market, Shankar thought of hosting a wine tasting festival.

They sipped, swirled, and tasted a selection of wines from Sula, N.D., Chateau Indage, Vintage, Renaissance, Vinsura, Vin & Vouloir, Nira Valley Grape Wines, Century and Seagram including reds, whites, rose and sparkling wines with bread platters at each counter.

Live food counters at the lawns offered an opportunity to enjoy tasty bites along with wine while food demonstrations and talks on wines deliciously rounded off the proceedings.
The entry voucher thoughtfully entitled visitors to take home the wine glass they were presented at the entry along with a guide book. A nice memento of happy times!
