Indage Vintners Ltd has introduced a range of value-for-money wines to offer wine drinkers a choice of wines at a time of economic downturn, reports Brinda Gill. The new wines produced at the Indage winery at Narayangaon are being marketed under the brands South Bay, Silverton, Blue Elephant, Mojo and Trio. They are priced between Rs. 100 and 400.

At a special reception held at the French Embassy on April 30, 2009, Jérôme Bonnafont, Ambassador of France to India decorated Kanwal Grover owner of Grover Vineyards Ltd and his son, Kapil Grover, with the title of Officier du Mérite Agricole and Chevalier de l'Ordre National du Mérite, respectively. Both men have been indian wine pioneers. The Art Collection series was also launched which includes artists on Indian wine labels for the first time.

Louis Henry Denis Jadot founded Maison Louis Jadot in 1859. But even before then, the story of Maison Jadot had its roots in the vineyards, with the Jadot family's purchase of the Clos des Ursules, a Beaune Premier Cru, in 1826. Pierre-Henry Gagey, the President of Maison Louis Jadot, comes from a long tradition of wine himself. His family, on both sides, has been in the wine business for 200 years. Gagey runs Jadot with a team of 70 people. He was in Delhi recently when he spoke to Sommelier India editor, Reva Singh about the House of Louis Jadot.

What a transformation! First there was the Kandahar, a cavernous Indian speciality restaurant that served its purpose in its time but now there is The Oberoi Patisserie and Delicatessen here in Delhi. Approached by a light, translucent staircase at the lower ground floor, with over 4,000 sq ft of Bottochino marble and teak, the Deli is a delight for the senses.

| Set in the north of New Zealand’s South Island, Spencer Hill winery produces about 50,000 cases every year. The wines are produced with grapes grown at their 30 ha vineyards as well as with grapes sourced from outside. Vogus wines, prominent wine producers in the South of France, is partnering with Indospirit Distribution Ltd, a distributor of imported wine, beer and spirits to launch a range of three wines across India at the end of the year, states a news release. Based on the ‘strength through unity’ principle, three wine cellars from the South of France have joined forces to enhance their production and find new market outlets. |  |
