| A Winemaker's dinner was recently held at the Maurya Sheraton Hotel where Joseph Drouhin (Burgundy) wines were tasted. The event was organized by Global Tax Free Traders. The wines served included the Pouilly-Fuissé and the Meursault. Pouilly-Fuissé is a dry, medium-full bodied, white wine from the Burgundy wine-producing region of France. |  |
Deccan Harvest, a fine dining restaurant situated in the vicinity of Magarpatta City in Pune organized a three day wine festival on their lawns on the 19th, 20th and 21st April. The country’s three leading wine companies Chateau Indage, Grover’s and Sula took part in the festival.

The Goa Tourism Development Corporation is hosting a three day wine festival between May 12th and May 14th. This is their second festival in two years. Wineries such as Grover Vineyards, Chateau Indage, Blue Star Agro winery, Renaissance Wineries, Pedro Vincent Vaz and Springfield Distilleries will be participating
| The Bangalore Wine Club organised a visit to Grover Vineyards on
Sunday 9th April - with a difference. About 80 people drove down to the winery (which is 1 1/2 hrs from the city)
in the evening reports Alok Chandra. Teams of 6 were organised, and a grape picking competition was held to see which team could harvest the most grapes (they were Cabernet Sauvignon, from one of the oldest parcels of land) in 10 minutes. |  |

On 7th April, 2006, the world famous cognac makers Hennessy of France, showcased their six top varietals to a select group of Delhi connoisseurs at the elegant Sky Lounge of the ITC Maurya Sheraton Welcomgroup in New Delhi, where Sommelier India was a special invitee. Altogether there were about 50 people.

Vinitaly, Italy’s largest and premium wine and spirits trade fair celebrated its 40th birthday recently with a 10%-15% increase in global business. “It has been the best Vinitlay in 30 years,” commented Angelo Gaja.

“It has been a very positive Vinitaly,” echoed Sandro Boscaini, CEO of Masi- “There was a notable increase in premium foreign buyers from Asia, Central America and other far-placed countries. Finally we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel and pull-out of the prevailing slump.” Read more coverage in our next print edition.

The Hyderabad Wine Club will be hosting a wine tasting where 4-5 five wines from Sula Vineyards including a sparkling with main idea of 'Compare and Contrast' will b served. Major wine and spirits industry players from all over the world will participate in Vinexpo-Asia-Pacific 2006 in Hong Kong from May 23rd to 25th, 2006. Each year India gets more and more visible at Vinexpo. China and Japan continue to lead Asia in terms of wine consumption though the overall market as depicted below is growing exponentially as more people discover the pleasures in drinking and appreciating wine.

Torbreck's David Powell conducted a wine tasting at the ITC Maurya Sheraton & Towers in Delhi recently. Some of the wines serviced included Woodcutters Semillion 2004, Woodcutters Shiraz 2003, Cuvee Juveniles 2003, The Steading 2002 and The Struie 2002. Mr. Christian von Guradze of Burklin Wolf was in India earlier this month and led a wine tasting at Diva restaurant. Burklin Wolf is the largest privately owned wine estate in Germany. Wine Spectator has given its wines ratings as high as 98 points in the past. Burklin Wolf is represented by Brindco in India.
Tulleeho is organizing two wine tastings in Delhi this month. The first is on March 16th for visiting students from the University of Texas at Austin while the second is for a corporate tasting on March 18th, 2006. The Bangalore Wine Club held a wine dinner on Saturday 4th March at the Windsor Sheraton hotel, Bangalore where wines imported by Sovereign Impex were sampled. The wines included Moletto Prosecco Spumante 2003 (Italian sparkling), Valdivieso Chardonnay Single Vineyard Wild Fermented 2003 (Chile), Wildekrans Pinotage Barrel Selection 2003 (South Africa) and Wildekrans Warrant 2001 Bordeaux Blend (South Africa).
Mr. De Laage De Meux of Chateau Palmer will be conducting a tasting of Chateau Palmer Grand Cru Classe, Margaux wines on February 27th, 2006 at the Oberoi Hotel in New Delhi.
Chateau Palmer was originally established by General Charles Palmer who served under Wellington and arrived in France after the Penninsular War between Napolean and England. |  |
