Saturday has always been my favourite day of the week because it means lots of wine and not having to get up early the next day. As I drove to the evening's event, I knew this Saturday was definitely more special than others for obvious reasons - a wine dinner at my favourite restaurant in Delhi - Diva. Bangalore Wine Club members enjoyed a wine dinner with a difference on Saturday, 20 August when they sampled a 4-course Vietnamese dinner called the French Connection at Blue Ginger at the Taj West End, while receiving an understanding about how wine funds function, and the possible joys of investing in something they love - special wines reports Ruma Singh.

Portuguese wines in India have a tough time being taken seriously. Mention Portugal and you immediately think of port, but there is much more to the wines of Portugal than Port. And if it's port, we invariably associate it with the port wine from Goa, which is not a good comparison, notes Reva K Singh. While Swiss wines are little known in the world, it's now an open secret that India produces wine. Indian cuisine is well-known in Switzerland and highly regarded. The only Michelin star ethnic restaurant in all of continental Europe is Rasoi by Vineet in Geneva (See Sommelier India May- June 2010). But Indian wines are catching up too.

During Bordeaux's Vinexpo this June, I enjoyed one of my best wine and dine experiences. Traditionally hosted by a First Growth, the dinner held by the Conseil des Grand Crus Classés en 1855 to welcome the international press to Vinexpo was at Château Haut-Brion this year.
