American Wines at the Taj West End

IMG_0174.jpgIt was a gourmet opportunity that was hard for wine lovers to resist! Bangalore Wine Club collaborated with Taj West End to host the launch of some top notch American wines at their signature Indian fine dining restaurant, Masala Klub, on January 28 2011 reports Ruma Singh. A select group of members and their guests interacted with Alan K. Portney, Vice President International Sales for Château Ste Michelle Wine Estates at an exclusive dinner with a special menu created by Masala Klub's chef Rishikesh Rai. Château Ste. Michelle is Washington State's oldest and most acclaimed winery situated on 105 wooded acres in Woodinville, Washington. Stags' Leap is located in Napa on the valley's eastern side with 90 acres of vineyards on a 240-acre estate.

On the evening, guests assembled by the poolside of the Taj West End with general manager Sanjay Sood and his team, and commenced the evening with canapés and chilled sparkling wine. Then they moved to the Masala Klub verandah where a multi-course dinner with dishes like Tawa Grilled Sea Bass in a marinade of Kashmiri chilli Indian spices was paired with Château Ste. Michelle Chardonnay Columbia Valley 2007, from Washington State, Chaap Roganjosh with baby laccha paratha was served with Stags' Leap Cellars Merlot 2006, and the Tandoori Broccoli in a marinade of yoghurt, fresh pomegranate and mild Indian spices was paired with the Stags' Leap Cellars Sauvignon Blanc 2008. Other wines served during dinner included the Erath Pinot Gris, 2008 from Oregon State. Chateau Ste Michelle Cabernet Sauvignon Columbia Valley, 2005.

Besides enjoying the excellent meal,IMG_0207.jpgwine lovers got the opportunity to taste some very well-known labels paired with Indian food, and perhaps found some answers to the eternal, 'what-wines-can-I-pair-with-Indian-cuisine' question!'Left: Dr Thomas Chandy, Sabrina and Shivram Warrior
