3rd International Congress of Chinese Cuisine & Wine

Hong Kong became an international wine hub almost overnight when the Special Administrative Region or SAR abolished all taxes on wine in February 2008. It is now, along with New York and London, one of the foremost wine clearing centres in the world. Hong Kong is a magnet for food lovers, particularly lovers of Yue cuisine or what is better known as Cantonese cuisine after the Chinese province that lies across the border.

Acknowledging the city's world renown as perhaps the best place in the world to savour Cantonese cuisine in one compact, cosmopolitan locale, ICCCW Hong Kong takes place on the 2nd and 3rd of November 2010, just before the International Wine and Spirits Fair.

The first ICCCW was held in Beijing in 2008. Then followed Singapore in 2009, both of which were attended by Sommelier India WINE magazine.

ICCCW Hong Kong celebrates the old and the new. The first day's lunch and dinner panel discussions and food and wine matching will take place in Lin Heung Kui, which is an off-shoot of Lin Heung with a history of over 80 years and a household name in Hong Kong for serving traditional Cantonese dim sums in a classical setting.

On the next day the lunch time panel discussion and wine tasting will be with Shanghainese food at Lao Shanghai, formerly Lao Ching Hing, started in 1955, one of Hong Kong's oldest and most famous anchors of Shanghai cuisine.

This will be followed by a Masterclass with Jerry Comfort of Beringer Estate. Flying in from California, Comfort comes with rich experience in food and wine tasting. He will explain how the different characteristics in wine impact on food and our taste buds. A not-to-be-missed masterclass.

ICCCW 2010 will end with a farewell dinner featuring food from one of Hong Kong's finest Cantonese restaurants, the two-Michelin star Ming Court which has a loyal, local clientele. The actual dinner will take place in a private function room, but the food will come direct from the kitchen of Ming Court. Limited to 100 places, this farewell dinner is also not to be missed.
