Bespoke Wines from Australia
After France, Australia's wines make up the second largest category of wines imported into India. This category has been growing steadily over the last few years and presently represents a growth rate of just about 20% per annum. It seemed only logical then, to continue the education and awareness of the regional Australian wine.
Australia has more than 52 appellations - known as Geographical Indicators or G.I.'s - and the Australian Trade Commission in conjunction with Australian sommelier and SI Contributor Writer, Harshal Shah, have kicked off a monthly series of wine tastings, aimed specifically at the food and beverage trade.
The idea behind these tastings is to expose the key wine buyers, importers, writers and general market influencers to some of the best wine from the unique G.I.'s of Australia.
The tastings are conducted by Shah and will be held once a month on the Australian High Commission compound. The first event took place on Wednesday, 23rd September by showcasing the wines of the Great Southern region from Western Australia. Highlights included the much acclaimed Harewood Estate from Denmark and Frankland Estate from the Frankland River Region. Next's months tasting will look at the wines from Coonawarra from South Australia.
