« Grape growers in the doldrums | Home Page | Wine Society of Delhi pairs Four Seasons with Yum Yum Tree »

Drink better for less

fourseasons1.jpgDon't let the economy push you into drinking bad wine, says Reva Singh. Instead, drink better for less money! You may already have a favourite wine that is easy on the wallet, but UB's newly released Four Seasons 100% varietals score well in the quality-to-price-ratio scale. The wines were introduced to members of The Wine Society, Delhi, at a dinner last week.

Speaking about Four Seasons, Vijay Rekhi, President and Managing Director, United Spirits Limited, told Sommelier India, "With three price points planned, our range will stand its own ground vis à vis local producers and imported wines. Steven Spurrier has given Four Seasons wines good reviews and we have also had enquires from France and other European countries. These factors augur well for us and we are very pleased with the total package being made available to the consumer."

Four Seasons has a world class integrated winery at Baramati, in the heart of the grape growing area, that will ultimately produce 10 m bottles. "We feel grape growers should be integrated with production," said Rekhi, "and are looking at offering equity participation to farmers."

Now available in the capital, after their launch in Pune and Bangalore, the Four Season's range includes Cabernet Sauvignon, Shiraz, Sauvignon Blanc, Chenin Blanc and Rosé (Blush Zinfandel) and range in price between Rs 400 and Rs 550, inclusive of tax in most states. (Karnataka is an exception with higher taxes).
