Wine in a can? Yes we can!
Barokes has achieved a gold medal for wine in a can, something that has never been done in the history of wine judging! Following Barokes' significant win at the European Patent Office in mid February where its European patent for wine in a can was confirmed, this innovative Australian wine producer has now been awarded a Gold Medal for its Cabernet Shiraz Merlot.
The gold was achieved in Germany at the 2009 Berlin Wine Trophy - a major international wine competition held under the patronage of the International Organisation of Vine & Wine (OIV). Over 3,400 wine entries were received by the competition this year from almost 40 countries.
Barokes is the only wine in a can in the history of wine judging to have won a gold medal. No wine in a can product has ever achieved such distinction in a major international wine competition and this gold medal is more than many bottled wines could ever hope to achieve!
"To compete in these international and well respected wine competitions against thousands of bottled wines from all over the world in each category and walk away with a gold medal is very pleasing," noted a company spokesperson.
Although not a complete surprise to him, Barokes winemaker Peter Scudamore-Smith (Master of Wines) stated modestly, "These medals are a clear indication that Barokes has hit the mark with their premium range of Australian wines".
