New Demand for Second Growth Bordeaux
As a result of the current financial meltdown, there has been a growing demand for 2nd Growth Grand Cru Bordeaux, and the "second" wines of the top chateaux. Indeed, you may not be compromising very much in buying these wines because their quality is often very close to the First Growths. "These are now where the real value for enjoyment lies," says Stephen Williams, Managing Director of The Antique Company. "The quality gap is especially narrow in great vintages."
A recent Antique Wine Company presentation of the 1961 vintage in which 3rd growth Chateau Palmer 1961 was voted best wine ahead of Latour and others like it is a case in point.
