Promising prospects for Australian wine in India
The Australian High Commission, Tourism Australia and Singapore Airlines organised an "Australian Food and Wine” festival at the The Oberoi Hotel earlier this month. India is seen as a strong emerging market with promising prospects for the Australian Wine Industry, writes Shivani Dogra.
Though Australian imports are expected to contribute a little less than a quarter of the 72,000 cases of wine being shipped into India this financial year, there wasn't a worried brow in the room. Positivity flowed as did the wine.
Michael Carter, the Australian Trade Commissioner said that Australian wine was now set to be retailed in some supermarkets in Mumbai and Bangalore signalling the potential for growth of Australian wine in India.
The Festival showcased a delectable spread of Australian food from the west and south of the country. The range included delicacies such as Tasmanian Salmon, Rock Lobster and deep sea crabs.
Added to that exotic spread were fine Australian wines like Henly Hill, Hungerford Hill, Howard Park estate and Yarraman Estate. Together they were a perfect introduction to Australian cuisine and wine.
