When Frescobaldi Came to Town

On April 30, Mr. Aman Dhall, Executive Director, Brindco, hosted a Wine Dinner at The Grill Room, Villa Medici, The Taj Mahal Hotel in New Delhi with some exceptional examples of Frescobaldi wine. Mr. Giuseppe Pariani, International Export Director of the Estates of Marchesi de Frescobaldi was present to introduce the wines.

Showcasing a variety of styles, the Frescobaldi estate wines paired well with the offerings of the Taj chefs. An unusual but nevertheless successful pairing was the dessert wine, Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi Vin Santo Del Chianti 1997 with the appetizer, Pan Seared Foie Gras with Caramelized Mango!

Another exceptional wine tasted was Castello di Pomino Bianco DOC 2006 which in an earlier incarnation in 1864 at a Parisian tasting was mistaken for a Champagne and awarded a Gold Medal!! Wonderfully rich and deep, yet retaining a rare crispness for such a fruit-forward wine, the 2006 vintage was quite delicious. It greatly augmented the Parmesan Mousse with Eggplant Ragout and Rocket Salad and can be highly recommended.

The four reds that were served over the course of the dinner were: Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi Mormoreto 2004 and Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi Lamaione 1995 along with Marchesi de’ Frescobaldi Luce 2000 and 2001. Representing a range of grape varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Sangiovese (Tuscany’s native grape), the wines in general represented the quality and expertise that one would expect of an estate such as Frescobaldi. The world-renowned Frescobaldi family has been producing great Tuscan wines for seven centuries.
