The Burgundy Conference, New Delhi

An exclusive Burgundy wine tasting was held on November 29th, 2007 at the Taj Man Singh Hotel in New Delhi. 25 wines from 3 great producers - Domaine Bouchard Père et Fils, Domaine Faiveley and Château de Fuissé, covering a vast range of wines, were tasted.

The wines included mostly a selection of top Premier Cru sites, some Grand Cru's and featured two horizontals from the same appellation to explain the impact of terroir and the climat as each sub-plot is referred to in Burgundy.

The Producers

Domaine Faiveley is the largest of the Big 4 quality negotiant houses of Burgundy with perhaps the largest land holding of some 134 Hectares of holdings amongst all the Burgundy houses including an enviable position of holding 5 Grand Cru properties in the Nuits and the 1 in the Beaune. Besides they have several of the top Premier Cru sites in Gevery Chambertin and Nuits St-George including some monopoles. They also have a strong presence in the Cote Chalonnaise that continues to deliver great value from a region where prices of the great wines from the great producers have gone beserk.

Bouchard Père et Fils is also one of the Big 4 and some argue at the top of the quality game. Their strength is a the Beaune vineyards although they also have some nice parcels in the Nuits including several of the top Grand Cru appellations. Of the 134 Hectares they own an amazing 12 Hectares are Grand Cru and 74 are Premier Cru. They also own the most prominent structure of all Burgundy in the Château de Beaune, a 15th century castle that houses in their cellars the largest collection of aged Burgundy in the world, including several vintages from the 19th century.

Château de Fuissé is the undisputed king and quality leader of the Pouilly-Fuissé appellation and bears also the name of the Château of the appellation. One of their wines is named the Tête de Cru or in other words the benchmark or hallmark of the appellation and both the Château and the wine carries this title on their gate and label respectively.
