Nazaaray Estate, a boutique winery with an Indian twist
 | An Indian-born Australian, Paramdeep Ghumman is making his mark on the wine scene down under in the Mornington Peninsula region of Victoria. Nazaaray Estate is a self-professed unique micro boutique winery with an Indian twist. We tried the wines at the Wine for Asia show last year and thought an Australian wine called Nazaarey would make a wonderful addition to a Diwali hamper, if only they were available here! |
“Paramdeep Ghumman is, as far as I am aware, the only Indian-born winery proprietor and winemaker in Australia. He and his wife migrated from India over 2o years ago, and purchased the Nazaaray vineyard property in 1991. An initial trial planting of 400 vines in 1996 was gradually expanded to the present level of 1.6 ha of pinot noir, 0.4 ha of pinot gris and 0.15 ha of chardonnay. Notwithstanding the micro size of the estate , all the wines are made and bottled onsite. Exports to Singapore.”

Of his 2007 Sauvignon Blanc Ghumman writes:
After the runaway success of our 2006 S/B I felt it would be a hard act to repeat. But the 2007 vintage has been just as good if not better. Delicate gooseberry, passion fruit mingled with hints of cut grass flavours blended with oak gives this wine a complexity that I hope you will enjoy as much as I do.
