Canard Duchêne launches in India

finewinesnmore.jpgCanard Duchêne, a French Champange label was launched at the Hyatt Regency in Delhi last week. It will be joining the existing bouquet of the exclusive 130 labels from Finewinesnmore in India.

Sommelier India was invited to the exclusive launch event at which a selection of Canard Duchêne wines were tasted.

Founded in 1866, Canard-Duchêne was started because of a love story between Victor Canard, cooper, and Léonie Duchêne, daughter of a family of winemakers in Ludes, who put their names together to found this Champagne House. In 1978, Canard-Duchêne was associated with Veuve Clicquot then joined the LVMH Group, which transmitted its rigour and search for quality. Subsequently the House saw substantial growth on European markets. More than ever, Canard-Duchêne, is a brand which is both famous and familiar, to celebrate the great and small occasions in life, with all the noblesse of a "champagne de terroir".

The takeover by the independent Champagne group Thiénot in October 2003, has strengthened the position of the Canard-Duchêne House in its region and given it new ambitions. More than ever, Canard-Duchêne, is a brand which is both stylistic and chic in presentation and warm in its offering. In 1890, their son Edmond brought international fame to the House and even penetrated the very closed circle of the suppliers to the Court of Tsar Nicolas IInd. Hence the two-headed eagle, emblem of the Russian Imperial family, which has been present on the labels since that time. At this period, the method of using a sabre to open the bottle was also invented, and it still remains a symbol of the House. This is why Canard- Duchêne, champagne of youth and enthusiasm, was adopted by the Ecole Polytechnique, founded by Napoléon, and by Saint-Cyr, the French West Point.

Finewinesnmore will be importing a varied range from Canard Duchene Brut, which has Fresh fruit flavors mingled with buttery toast notes, Canard Duchene Rose - which is a powerful, full-bodied wine, with flavors reminiscent of crystallized fruit, Grand Cuvée Charles VII Brut – which is dominated by elegance and finesse, Grand Cuvée Charles VII Rose - A wine that conveys great elegance through its fruity character. finewinesnmore2.jpg

The Grande Cuvée Charles VII has special significance in the history books. It was created to mark the house's centenary celebration. Canard Duchêne's Grande Cuvée pays homage to King Charles VII, who was led by Joan of Arc to be crowned in the Reims Cathedral in 1429. From the very beginning, the concept of the Grande Cuvée Charles VII has remained unchanged: a selection from among Champagne's most prestigious crus, a blend of several exceptional vintages that perpetuates the House's distinctive style: Fruity, elegant and versatile.

Canard-Duchêne wines obtained the following awards at the 2005 International Wine Challenge in London:

- Bronze Medal for Canard-Duchêne Brut
- Bronze Medal for Canard-Duchêne vintage 99
- Seal of Approval for Canard-Duchêne Rosé
- Silver Medal for Canard-Duchêne Grande Cuvée Brut
