Alto Vino, the fine-dining Italian restaurant at J W Marriott Pune, hosted a beautifully curated wine dinner paired with “Wines by Geoff Hardy”, South Australia. The company’s CEO, Richard Dolan, presented the wines and shared the winery’s journey with guests at a multi-course dinner, featuring signature specialties prepared by Chef Christian Huber.
“Our winery was founded in 1980 by Geoff Hardy and its philosophy is inspired by his great-great-grandfather, the original Thomas Hardy, who planted grapes in South Australia in 1853 and is regarded as one of the founding fathers of the South Australian wine industry,” said Dolan. “Inspired by his pioneering experience, we continue to push the boundaries of Australian viticulture today, exploring the potential of a wide range of grape varieties and wine styles.”
“Wines by Geoff Hardy” comprises three South Australian brands –Pertaringa in McLaren Vale, K1 by Geoff Hardy in the Adelaide Hills and Hand Crafted by Geoff Hardy/GMH, featuring wines produced from estate-owned grapes as well as grapes sourced from a variety of premium regions across South Australia. The winery was named Australia’s number one wine company by Winestate Magazine in 2012 and 2014.
Depending on the vintage, 50 wines are typically produced every year – each distinct by grape variety, terroir and/or winemaking style – under these three brands. To give diners an understanding of the span of the portfolio, five wines were selected for the dinner covering the three brands, different grape varieties, and vintages.
The wines were K1 by Geoff Hardy Sauvignon Blanc 2016, Geoff Hardy GMH Pinot Noir 2015, K1 by Geoff Hardy Shiraz 2013, K1 by Geoff Hardy Cabernet Sauvignon 2014 and the award-winning, Pertaringa ‘Yeoman’ Shiraz 2015.
Chef Christian Huber and his team presented a superlative multi-course meal to pair with the wines. Each preparation, artfully plated, was a delight that charmed diners with its visual appeal, subtle flavours, play of textures and delicate nuances. By juxtaposing different expressions of one ingredient such as asparagus or different ingredients such as melt-in-the-mouth mushroom tortelli with truffle foam, Chef Huber created some wonderful dishes making it a memorable dinner.
