Every year Grand Gold, Gold and Silver medals are awarded to wines that are assessed by a national and international jury according to regulations laid down by the OIV and VinoFed. This year for the first time Pisco, Chile’s very popular national spirit, was also included in the Competition.
Reva K. Singh, publisher and editor of India’s first wine magazine, Sommelier India and Kulbir Singh, president of The Wine Society, Delhi, were the representatives from India on an international jury that numbered several wine professionals from Asia including Ying Guo, sommelier at Four Seasons Hotel, Shanghai, wine writer, Megumi Nishida from Japan, Ponty Young, marketing and product director of Vigorous Vines Pte Ltd from Indonesia and Igor Sharbatov, President of the St Petersburg Sommelier Association.
The main goal in 2012 was to increase the consumption and presence of Chilean products in emerging markets. Prior to the tastings, there were a series of meetings between the foreign jury and Chilean wineries interested in selling their wine in the markets represented by the jury.
This year, with the support of the Embassy of Indonesia, Catad’Or and W Santiago Hotel organized an Indonesia Gastronomic Week for which Chef Ragil was specially flown over from Jakarta. The week culminated with the Catad’Or 2012 Gala Dinner at which Indonesian dishes were accompanied by wines from the 2012 competition. The programme also included a Fashion Show by Indonesian designer Oscar Lawalata. Following the fashion show, the winners were presented their awards with the Taster W Santiago seal, which certifies the quality and excellence of their products and is recognized around the world.
